Editor's Biography
Edward Gray is Professor of history at Florida State University where he has taught early American history since 1998. He earned his A.B. from the University of Chicago (1988) and his M.A. (1990) and PhD (1996) from Brown University. Ed has received numerous fellowships including an Andrew Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Huntington Library and a National Endowment for the Humanities Faculty Fellowship. His most recent book is The Making of John Ledyard: Empire and Ambition in the Life of an Early American Traveler (Yale University Press, 2007). He is currently working on a project about the political radical Tom Paine and his quest to build an iron bridge. Before becoming editor of Common-place, Ed served as the journal's Reviews Editor.
